Pietri Antikainen

Seniori lecturer at TAMK - Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland

The acclaimed bass, Petri Antikainen, graduated with M Mus from Sibelius Academy, Helsinki and then subsequently studied advanced vocal studies at renowned music universities, including those in Berlin and Vienna.  Petri gained several awards and also won third place in the Lappeenranta National Singing Competition in 1989.  

Petri Antikainen has had a wide and varied career singing all over Europe with most notable performances at Finnish National Opera, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Pori Opera, Oulu Opera, Helsinki Festival, Turku Music Festival, Avanti's Summer Sounds Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO), Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.  

Petri opera sang at various German opera houses, including the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and Landestheater Coburg. He has also visited the Landestheater Detmold, Opera Krefeld, Staatsoper Hannover and Opera Bielefeld, and the Festival Carintischer Sommer in Austria.

As a vocal pedagogue, in addition to his primary role as a Lecturer in Singing at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Antikainen has conducted masterclasses in singing both in Finland and internationally and has served as a jury member in many international singing competitions.  From 1998 to 2000 he was lecturer in Singing at Tampere Conservatory and, since 2000, has been professor of Singing at Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
